Underactive Thyroid Symptoms
Are Fairly Common

Many people have slow thyroid function slow but because they don't have symptoms that are overly affecting their lives, they don't really notice anything wrong.

A lack of iodine in the diet is the most common situation affecting thyroid function.

It's easy to correct an underactive thyroid condition with a quality iodine supplement and even better is to include other nutrients that support thyroid function and help the thyroid to absorb and use the iodine.

Because iodine is water soluble, it washes from the soil into rivers and down to the oceans, which makes seafood rich in iodine. People on a high seafood diet don't have to worry about lack of iodine!

Note: This may seem strange but it's true. An overactive thyroid also responds to a high quality iodine supplement. It works for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

Without adequate levels of iodine, the thyroid cannot produce enough thyroxine and the thyroid enlarges as it tries to absorb more iodine from surrounding tissue. Iodine also cures goiter.

Without adequate thyroxine, the development of the young, animals or humans, is severely affected. Human babies can be severely retarded mentally and physically.

Adults can develop mental slowness, depression and fatigue.

Synthetic Thyroid Supplementation

The synthetic version of thyroxine, Levothyroxine, is the second most prescribed drug in the U.S.A.

If you take this type of medication, you will never cure your condition. You have to take it for the rest of your life. That may seem like a minor issue but the point is that synthetic drugs never quite do the same job as their natural counterparts.

Also, why would you take a synthetic drug when you can take something natural that improves body function?

Some medicines and some foods can also interfere with this medication and iodine is a natural element required by the body, so there are no side effects or absorption problems with iodine.

The only caution with iodine is not to take too much but that applies to many things - drinking too much water can kill you but how many of us will try to drink that much?

Just to show you the difference, synthetic thyroid medications made of Levothyroxine are not recommended for weight loss. Yet, natural iodine for thyroid problems can help with weight loss. Think about that one for a moment....

Here's a Wikipedia reference where you can read about Levothyroxine and weight loss.

It's mentioned in the first few lines of text.
