Heart Disease Symptoms

Angina

Heart disease symptoms  are many and many of them can be eliminated when it is understood what is happening behind the scenes.

A very common heart disease symptom, angina, is caused by atherosclerosis, which is the build up of plaque in the arteries. This cuts down the volume of blood being pumped.

We'll get into cholesterol buildup (plaque) later and how you can treat it naturally. Statin drugs used for cholesterol cause a shortage of a critical heart nutrient, putting you in more danger for future heart problems.

Since angina reduces blood flow, your heart may have to pump harder and faster to keep up to the demand.

Angina heart disease symptoms can be:

  • Discomfort or tightness in the chest - may spread to other areas in close proximity.
  • Discomfort in arms, neck or jaw. Possible shooting pains.
  • Pain can be mild or severe.

Angina is diagnosed by x-ray and medical treatments are:

Opening arteries with a special ballon type device and stents (angioplasty).

Creating a new path for blood flow around the blocked artery (bypass surgery).

Medications to help lower cholesterol (statin drugs).

The problems with the statin drugs are coming to light more and more.

Although they help lower cholesterol, the side effects can be very undesirable and one of these side effects is increasing your chance of a heart attack.

Pretty scary when you search a little more and find that cholesterol levels can be dealt with very well with natural methods.

Here's a link to important information about Lipitor, the most popular of the cholesterol statin drugs.

Symptoms of Arrhythmia Are Common
Heart Disease Symptoms

Arrhythmia is extra or missed heartbeats that interrupt the normal rhythm of your heart.

Faster heartbeat: tachyarrhythmia.

Slowed heartbeat: bradyarrhythmia.

Irregular heartbeat: Atrial Fibrillation causes poor blood flow through the body. With AF, the electrical impulses to your heart are irregular and these erratic signals give your heart an erratic pulse.

AF is the most common type of arrhythmia and affects about 4 out of 100 people over 65 years.

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is another one of the very common heart disease symptoms.

Sometimes called the silent killer because people many times don't realize they have high blood pressure until something serious like a heart attack happens.

There are symptoms but much of the time the symptoms aren't even noticed because lifestyle is being affected.

High cholesterol and high blood pressure many times go hand in hand and are both health issues that can be corrected naturally with dietary changes and the right herbal extracts.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is one of the most misunderstood topics in the area of heart disease.

The medical approach is to try to lower cholesterol levels with statin drugs instead of addressing the reasons why there is excess cholesterol in the first place.

Sort of like putting the cart in front of the horse.

Instead of just taking drugs to lower cholesterol, you should address the body functions that are causing the problem. Address the cause and you have fixed the problem for good.

Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that makes it difficult for the heart to pump. Causes considered to be hereditary, alcohol, poor diet or viral heart infections.

  • Hypertropic cardiomyopathy (HCM) - thickening of the heart muscle can be inherited or caused by constantly high blood pressure.
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) - enlarge heart - cause unknown other than excess alcohol can cause it.
  • Arrhythmic right ventricular cardiomyopathy - inherited disorder where heart tissue is gradually replaced by fatty, fibrous tissue. Causes dilated heart and weaker pumping.
  • Restrictive cardiomyopathy - muscles in the heart wall become stiff, restricting blood flow. Cause unknown.

Heart Attack - Another Common
Symptom of Heart Disease

Caused by factors such as cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, inactivity, weight, diet, smoking and stress levels.

Smokers and diabetics increase risk of heart attack from 2-4 times.

Heart attack is just the end result of other heart disease symptoms. Some heart attacks can be mild and the person may not even realize they have had a heart attack.

Heart failure means you heart cannot keep up to body needs and heart failure can be due to all of the previously mentioned heart disease symptoms.

Heart Valves

Heart valves are designed to let blood flow in only one direction. When they don't seal properly blood flows backward.

Stenosis - condition valve opening narrows usually due to thickening of the valve.

Valve doesn't open completely causing blood and pressure to back up making the heart work harder.

Insufficiency - when valves don't seal properly causing blood to be pushed in two directions instead of only one direction.

A person can be born with valve defects or they can come with age and the other health conditions that contribute to heart disease symptoms.

Endocarditis

Endocarditis is infection in the lining of the heart (endocardium).

Bacteria or fungus from the bloodstream and can come from an infection in some other part of the body.

Over time, small clumps containing fungus, bacteria and other residue from infections may develop on heart valves keeping them from operating properly.

This may spread to other areas of the heart.

Good oral hygiene is considered important to help keep bacteria from entering this way and dealing with any mouth infections quickly.

Rheumatic Fever

Rheumatic fever usually starts with a sore throat caused by streptococcal bacteria.

If the strep throat isn't treated, it can develop into rheumatic fever and rheumatic fever is well know for damaging heart valves.

Symptoms of rheumatic fever usually begin one to five weeks after being infected with strep bacteria.

Symptoms of rheumatic fever can be:

Tiredness

Fidgety

Skin rash

Breathlessness

Sore/swollen joints (knees, ankles, arms, elbows, wrists) tender and warm to the touch and these symptoms may move from joint to joint.

On other pages of this site we will talk about treating the heart disease symptoms that respond well to natural methods. These are angina, cholesterol, high blood pressure. As well, we will discuss improving immunity and health which can also affect any heart disease symptoms.
